THE HOLY GRAIL WAR The Holy Grail War is a battle between several Magi who summon powerful familiars called Servants through the Holy Grail. These Servants are legendary figures throughout time and space, as they all battle to the death with each other for the Magi who summoned them for the ultimate prize; the Holy Grail, a single wish that moves Heaven and Earth to achieve. In other words, think Highlander with familiars. The Holy Grail War of the World is the same concept, but on a much larger scale. Normally, the Grail relies on the leylines of the area. The same concept applies to the Grail War of the World, using the faultlines of the World to act as the leylines. No one knows where in the world the Grail will manifest, The Holy Grail War of the World was a joint effort between seven powerful Magus families. These families are the Tohsaka, Makiri (now Matou), Einzbern, Edelfelt, Barthomeloi, Yggdmillennia, and the Harway. The original intentions of these families was to reach the Root, known as Akasha, but for the most part, it's devolved into the war for the wishmaker.

THE RULES OF THE GRAIL WAR In order to keep the Holy Grail War orderly and well oiled, there are rules in place to guide and lead the Servants. Any questions a character may have can be given to Ruler, who will answer them as swiftly as possible. It is worth noting that the rules of the Grail War on Fate/Brave Shine are not absolute out-of-character. They are absolute in-character, but rules in-character can be broken. Just don't be surprised if your character suffers consequences should it be made public. So what are the rules anyway? 1) The Holy Grail War is a war of absolute secrecy. Witnesses who are not participants are to be killed. Naturally, some will have issues with this. Can you say character conflict?2) Any Master who has lost their Servant is considered out of the war and will be taken into Ruler's custody. While they may re-enter the war, should they contract with a Servant who has lost their Master, doing so forfeits Ruler's protection, as does attacking a combatant after being defeated. However, the inverse is in effect. Attacking a Master who has been removed from the war is a serious violation. 3) A Servant cannot summon another Servant to claim the position of Master for themselves. 4) Ruler is not to be targeted, but is not allowed to be an active participant for any one side in a Grail War. They play an extremely important role and to defy them is to defy the rules of the Grail War itself.
