This is why Cassie can never have nice things. Ever. | Cassie could only pray she had made all of the correct preparations. The summoning ritual had to be done correctly, or the spirit she summoned would have a poor connection to her. That was the last thing she wished, since she had been poring over every tome in the Clock Tower that explained the Holy Grail War. The basement of her family's manor was large enough for such a summoning, and she had pushed the books and tables aside so she had the space to work. The elaborate circle had been traced onto the floor meticulously, and she had the catalyst she had procured set up on an alter before the summoning circle. It was her sincere hope that the this piece from the castle of Camelot would summon one of the Knights of the Round Table as her preferred servant of choice.
Cassie had been dubious at first when she had met the man, but her family had been using him for years when they wished to excavate artifacts relating to their history of knighthood and ties to King Arthur. He was a legitimate dealer in his field with a good success rate. Inhaling deeply, she stood before the circle as she held her hand outward. Her carmine eyes flickered to the faint signs of the Command Spells that had marked her hand just recently. It was a sign that the Grail had found her worthy enough to be chosen for this war, and she was determined to see this through. "Silver and iron to the origin. Sword and the king of contracts to the cornerstone. The ancestor is my great master Arthur. The alighted wind becomes a wall. The gates in the four directions close, coming from the crown, the three-forked road that leads to the kingdom circulate. Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Repeat every five times. Simply, shatter once filled. I announce," she stated clearly.
The summoning circle burst into life she began the summoning chant, which meant she would continue it through to completion. There was no room for hesitation and mistakes now. "Your self is under me, my fate is in your sword. In accordance with the approach of the Holy Grail, if you abide by this feeling, this reason, then answer. Here is my oath. I am the one who becomes all the good of the world of the dead, I am the one who lays out all the evil of the world of the dead. Thou seek the light with an outstretched hand, a divine blade lies before you, so command the wake of dreams. To restore the world, cut away the seams!" The basement flooded with light as she used her free hand to shield her eyes against the momentary blindness. Had she succeeded? By the heavens above, she prayed that she had. |

Oh, she succeeded all right. Her ritual itself didn't really have any visible flaws, so the Servant drawn would be the one the catalyst was used for, as intended. As the light faded, returning everything to the way it was before, Cassandra would find that she was indeed not alone. Standing in the midst of the circle was her Servant. Garbed in a suit of armor and holding his sword in his hand, it was undoubtedly a mythical warrior from the past. There was that brief moment of silence, as if he were acknowledging her existence, and indeed he was. So this was the one who had summoned him then? He had to admit, it was a pecular situation. He never thought anyone would summon him. Of course, there might be problems, at least to Cassandra. Even though the ritual had been performed flawlessly, "I, Servant Rider," right there was the first sign that something had gone wrong. It was best to aim for a Saber, was it not? "Have answered your call." Knowledge of the modern world began to fill him. It would take time for him to acclimate to this new world. He looked around the dingy room that had been used to summon him. "I suppose I can't complain too much about my surroundings." He indirectly whined about the basement. Of course, there was one other problem that Cassandra would find. Namely, that he was so bloody weak. What information she could see would confirm that. Even if she had any doubts after seeing that, the extraordinarily small pull on her mana would be another sign that something had gone wrong. In fact, it was so small that it wouldn't be too difficult to pass merely as a familiar, rather than the heroes of history and legend that Servants were. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: +3+ do not worry, you have me

She has decided to roll with it. | Immediately she could sense something was wrong. Was she not meant to be her servant's anchor to this world? Cassie knew the Grail would be supplying an amount of the mana, but she was also needed to sustain his form in this world. She had been expecting a decent pull of her mana after the initial summon, but she felt no fatigue. Her brow furrowed as she looked her servant over. His armor and sword suggested he was indeed a heroic spirit of old. Had she done something wrong? Was the incantation she had modified to fit her family's magecraft been wrong? Her eyes flickered to the Command Seals that now shone so brightly on her right hand.
It almost seemed like a mockery to her now. He introduced himself as the Rider class, which was not the class she had been anticipating at all. The catalyst she had used had been meant for one of the Knights of the Round Table. A Saber class to fit with the knights her ancestor had surrounded himself with. "Rider? I--something went wrong. Ah, what did I do wrong?" she mused with a shake of her head. The summoning circle had been perfectly drawn out, and she had recited the incantation to the best of her ability. She had used a catalyst to increase her chances of summoning the type of servant she wished to ally herself with. Was it the catalyst itself?
Cassie took a moment to look back to Rider and study the parameters given to him. Her expression morphed into shock as she registered nothing was listed. She would surely not call herself an elite magus by any means, but she was not a slouch with little mana to anchor her servant to this world. "Your parameters are unlisted, and your mana draw is next to nothing. Why? I know Servants can vary in strength, but you are little better than a familiar in this state." Her expression had melted into one of discontent, but she could hardly blame Rider for this predicament. Had she not been the one to summon him after all? A soft sigh escaped her as she placed her hands on her hips and glanced upwards.
"I apologize for my rudeness. My name is Cassandra Amell, and I suppose I am your Master in this Grail War," she greeted politely. Her gaze flickered back to the catalyst she had used before she lifted her marked hand to point at it. "Tell me, do you recognize the piece I used that summoned you?" |

Well, so much for that. Rider leaned on his blade, using it as a support, digging the tip into the ground of the floor. "Ah, so you can see them?" He sighed in resignation. Really, he should have seen that one coming. There was no way around this then, was there? He would just have to be the one to break it to her. "Forgive me for being the one to tell you this, Master, but I believe you have simply drawn the worst card in the deck. The ah... how is it called. The Seven-Two Offsuit?" It was his Grail Knowledge kicking in. That was the worst hand in poker right? He thought it was. Poker was popular, maybe she understood what he meant? If she didn't though, it wouldn't matter. Rider shrugged his shoulders as he looked off to the sides of the room. "I am little stronger than what would pass for human in this age." He admitted. Well, this wouldn't do for a Grail War, a deadly battle between superhumans drawn from all across time. But unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done about it. But he did find her question intriguing, looking over to the catalyst used. Rider's eyes widened in a brief flash of obvious recognition. How in the world had they managed to achieve gathering such a thing? It should have been completely lost. Looking back, he quirked a brow. "... I do. Or, rather, the feel of it." That brought up some questions. Namely, "... Tell me, who were you attempting to summon with that rock?" There were many others like him. He wasn't sure if they could be tied to that, but it was a fair shot. He wondered if they would show, if he would see the ones he called brothers all again. Of course, he had to see where this woman's line of logic was heading. HP: --/-- MP: --/-- tags: Cassandra Amellnotes: to her inevitable doom

I'm used to doom at this point. | Cassie ran a hand through her loose hair as she bit back another sigh. Why would she not be able to see his lack of stats? There had to be a reason for such a thing, right? His Noble Phantasm was ranked quite high, but she had learned that Noble Phantasms were the embodiment of a hero's legend. "I suppose it cannot be helped now. This is not a game of poker where I can fold my hand and start over." What was she going to do in the war with such a weak Servant? The last thing she wished to do was voice her discontent and offend him. There had to be a good explanation for his weakness, right?
Little stronger than a human? Did that mean she could defeat him herself as he was? Cassie had the odd urge to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Nearly all of her time had been spent researching and preparing herself for the Grail War, and she had been chosen to participate. She knew her chances of winning the grail were slim, but now even that low probability had gone right out the window. Instead she watched as Rider took in the catalyst with obvious recognition. Well, at least that part of her problem was becoming clear now. Cassie was going to throttle her family's archaeologist when she met him next. Her arms were crossed over her chest as her own brow quirked as well.
"I was attempting to summon a Saber class Servant from the time of Camelot. I was promised by one of my family's trusted sources that this piece was a part of the foundation of Camelot's castle. Obviously, that was not the case, and this is an artifact from another source entirely," she answered. Now she wished to know the exact heroic spirit she had managed to summon, but that was one he would have to reveal to her on his own. |

Ah, a member of the Round Table. Of course one would desire one of those. Rider scratched the back of his neck, obviously uncomfortable with the words that had been said. She had desired a powerful hero, a man of chivalry that could wade through entire battlefields. He looked away from his Master, at a loss for words for a moment before finally speaking. "... That makes this even more embarrassing." So much more embarrassing, and kind of insulting in its own way, but this was the correct path, Rider was certain of it, and he could not allow his decisions to cause regret, nor could he question them. "Your source is... correct."Closing his eyes, he exhaled, and put a balled fist to his chest. "You have indeed pulled a member of the Round Table, just... not the one you wanted, I'm sure." He seemed to deflate at the last bit. Opening his eyes, he looked away from her again, as if ashamed. "I am Sir Gareth, of Orkney. Unfortunately, I never really qualified for Saber. My only real experience with the sword was dying to Sir Lancelot." He put on an amused smile. It was known that Sir Gareth's true quality shined as a jouster. Still, his Master had gone through all the trouble of summoning him, and Rider would not abandon her, not that he could. She was his way of getting to experience this new world. That being said, she could effectively fold and try again, but he wasn't really quite prepared to tell her that, considering he was worried that she might actually try it. The last thing he wanted was to be summoned only to immediately disappear again. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: we are doomed together?

Forever doomed separately. | Even more embarrassing? Cassie tilted her head to the side as she regarded Rider once again. Her carmine eyes widened when he admitted her source had been correct. She turned her gaze to the piece of stone once again as she regarded it somewhat dubiously. The Knights of the Round Table had been warriors without peer and had lived on in fame for many centuries now. There was no doubt that they varied in strength amongst one another, but to have unlisted stats? Again, there was not much she could do about it now. Perhaps in her heart of hearts she had been hoping to summon her own ancestor, but that had not been the result of this summoning.
"Not the one I wanted...?" she asked with slight confusion. There had not been a truly specific one she had been expecting, but it did seem she had summoned one of the lesser known Knights. The way he glanced away in shame had guilt lancing through her veins for having slighted him in such a way. "Please, forgive me. Perhaps you were not who I was expecting, Sir Gareth, but it is truly an honor to meet someone that once served alongside King Arthur." Cassie placed her hand over her heart as she bowed to him in respect and apology. Her summoning had worked as she had wished for it to, and she was grateful that a knight had been summoned to her side.
"I promise to do my best to bring you no dishonor or give you a task that goes against your conscience," she vowed firmly. Her entire childhood had been spent learning the chivalry and honor of a knight to the realm. Cassie had no true way of knowing if a Knight of the Round Table would consider her worthy, but she would do her absolute best! She raised from her bow to smile brightly at Sir Gareth. "I also promise to find out a way boost your stats. Surely that is an anomaly even for heroic spirits" |

A way to buff his stats? Well, there were multiple ways, but only one was possible right now. Rider wouldn't even consider telling her that part, it was far too costly to do so. So he figured he would hide that part from her. "I'm afraid you can't." He shook his head. "It is merely a failure as a Servant." In truth, there really wasn't anything he himself could do about his condition. "But... I am... thankful for your acceptance. I understand I am not King Arthur or Sir Lancelot, but I will do what I can." And that would be very little. Really, the fact that she was so accepting of him actually shamed him. The truth is Rider didn't really want to fight, and there were other reasons for the shame. He figured to do otherwise would make him and his Master the very first casualties. He couldn't truly protect her from a Servant. It would require them either figuring the two beneath their notice, or not even registering as a threat, or whatever codes of honor they held that prevented them from slaying opponents like them. If they were to make it any decent distance, or whether his Master was to get out alive would take cunning and luck. Rider, personally had no hope for himself. He was a Servant, he would have to die sooner or later. It would likely be sooner, he figured, but that was a depressing topic. He would enjoy this new life for now. Dismissing his sword, he looked at his Master, establishing eye contact for the first time in a while, his golden eyes blinking. "If you could show me around your home, I would appreciate it. I'd like to know where we'll be staying for a bit." They needed to plan a strategy, but maybe it could wait the first night. He had an idea for continued survival, he just had to be smart about it. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: until you get lonely like a cat

Then I will just sleep forever. | Cassie shook her head at him, because she firmly believed there would be a way to do so. All she had to was figure out what was making him weak like he was. Her eyes flickered to her command seals for a moment, since they were a representation of true magic that had been lost. They were her only insurance policy on being able to bend her servant to her will should the need arise, or if she needed to summon him to her side immediately. Wasting them idly would be rather stupid of her unless it was an emergency. "I will still continue to try regardless. You are my Servant, and it is my duty to aid you as you will me."
For now, her best strategy would be to present him as her familiar. He was so weak that he should escape the notice of other Masters and Servants. Cassie glanced at her hand before deciding she would cover her hands with gloves to obscure the seals. It looked like her hopes for winning the Grail had decreased to simply surviving this war as unscathed as she could manage. Death did not scare her, but she had no wish to run headlong into it carelessly. These were worries that could wait until the Grail War had officially started. She had succeeded in summoning her Servant, and her home was carefully warded against any intruders.
"Oh, of course! Forgive me for lingering down here. The rest of the manor is much more comfortable," she replied with a smile. Spinning on her heel, she beckoned Rider to follow her from the basement and up the stares. So many questions were burning within her, because she sincerely wished to know what it had been like to serve King Arthur. There was only so much history could get correct, and her family records were rather faint the farther back she read. "The Amell estate is within the countryside of Wales, so we are pretty secure out here for now with several wards to detect any malicious presences. Well, those of the magus variety. I imagine heroic spirits are another level entirely." |

As they walked up the stairs into the suprisingly fancy manor, Rider had to take a moment to take in his surroundings. Well, it certainly wasn't medieval like he'd been expecting. To be honest, there was a small part of him that was expecting that he'd have to use his hands and a combat dagger to cut his food. He ran a finger alongside a table, noting the sheer polished sheen. "It depends." He remarked. "Most Servants cannot hide themselves, so we would sense them coming from ages away thanks to your fortifications." He paused for a moment. "However, any Assassin worthy of the class can break in." This was a serious problem. Normally an Assassin would be the worst in a fight, and it would be effortless to simply overpower them as a Servant. Now, it would fall to Cassie to stop any form of Assassins. Although he supposed he could try and help with flying daggers and such. But it still didn't stop the fact that they hilariously wound up being more dangerous than any of the other Servants. "They will be our greatest threat. It's my suggestion that we move around regularly."They didn't have the moral scruples about killing that others did. In fact, he was pretty sure that some Assassins would do it for fun, and after Cassandra had gone to the effort to accidentally summon him, he wasn't about to just let her go and get herself killed before anything could happen. "The moment we might be trailed by an Assassin, we need to get out of Wales. Regular travel will throw off the scent. It wouldn't hurt to consider going to an isolated location." Antarctica might be a bit of an impossibility, but there were other places they could go that no one would bother looking! tags: Cassandra Amell notes: i'll take wolfie away

Wolfie is mine forever. <3 | Cassie bit back an amused smile as he seemed to study the interior of her family's manor. It had been in her family for a few centuries now, but it had been upgraded throughout the years. Technology was not something her family disdained like other magus did. Modern conveniences had their uses that would take too long with magic to replicate. "Well, that is a relief in itself. It would give us some time make an escape when we are sought out," she mused. Her hand rested on the hilt of her own sheathed sword. Her blade was particularly potent against spirits and familiar. Would it be able to work on servants as well?
The Assassin class servant? Yes, one of them would post a threat. "I suppose such a thing cannot be helped, then. I have enough funds to pay for our travels." It seemed her life was going to become significantly more complicated than she had anticipated. This Grail War was on a global scale, which would make them harder to find. It also meant they could come across another Master without even being aware of that fact. Cassie would have to search for the forged identifications her family had already created over the years. One could never be too careful when it came to the secrecy of magic after all. All she had to do was modify a few of them to fit for Rider.
"I hope you will not suggest Antarctica. I doubt I would fare well in the cold," she remarked with an amused smile. There were plenty if island nations that they could hide upon as they traveled. Would they spend the entire war running, though? Cassie wished to have the chance to earn the Grail on her own merits and not by simply waiting for everyone to beat one another. "Is there anything else you would like to know?" |

"I doubt you'd survive." He said bluntly before wincing a moment. "I'm sorry, that was a bit too blunt. But you're right, Antarctica is not something worth considering." He remarked. It'd have to be elsewhere where his tiny little master wouldn't completely freeze to death. "Someplace secluded. Australia would be more fitting." He couldn't really think of any potential heroes from that hellhole, so maybe they wouldn't think to go looking for anyone there? It was worth considering. From what he had been informed, it seemed the dangers would mainly be boorish people. Goddamn Australians. Regardless, Rider looked at Cassie for a moment to examine her. "I'd pack what you'd take if I were you." She seemed positively Spartan compared to the rest of the place, so he doubted she'd really take that much. "Also, give me a rundown on everything you can do. I need to plan potential strategies." And he still didn't know what she could do as a Magus. He knew what he could do, but right now his Master was a complete unknown in the factor. Although on the topic of weaponry. "We'll have to procure a firearm when we go somewhere as well. A Servant wouldn't be caught dead with modern weaponry." He advised, holding out his hand to make a bang motion. He'd look less like a Servant. Plus if forced into a confrontation, he doubted most Masters would expect the Servant to shoot them. Then, he looked at himself, his mind running a mile a minute. "Also I will need a change of clothes." These would definitely give him away. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: not if you're asleep

[attr="class","crachel"] Rider
Even asleep she is mine. | Her brow quirked at that rather blunt statement. Well, it seemed he had a more direct side to him. No doubt she would be learning much about her Servant during their participation in the Grail War. "Seclusion is a good thing. I cannot say I have ever been to Australia before," she mused lightly. It was a country with unbearable heat and dangerous wildlife from what she recalled. Honestly, she had never given Australia much thought beyond seeing it on a globe or map. There were plenty of places within the world they could disappear to, though. All of it would be worth it if she could see her wish through, no?
"I will pack basic necessities. Anything else can be purchased as we travel." It was best to avoid using anything electronic to pay for her items, since such methods could be easily traced. Her family had emergency funds stashed away in their safe, and there were some jewels and other such things to use for money. "My family's magecraft revolves heavily around the sword. We specialize against spirits, and our Magic Crest is Neidrarian," she explained as she gestured towards her sword. It was an unorthodox method, since most mage families spent years passing on their crests to their heirs. It gave her the advantage of easily accessing the history of her family's magecraft, but it also meant she had to have her sword on her at all times.
"I can dispel familiars, spirits, and demons easily. Whether my sword can dispel a heroic spirit is doubtful, but it should still have some effect on them." It had been an earlier thought of hers, but she hoped Rider could confirm it for her. As for a firearm, then they were already in luck. "My father kept a lockbox with a handgun inside. My family is rather fond of modern conveniences, and there should be a spare set of clothing as well," she replied as she glanced over Rider. Her father had been around the same height as the heroic spirit, but it was hard to gauge his size with his armor on. Cassie turned to lead the spirit and up the stairs to the wing where her parents resided. |

Rider was actually rather surprised at the description of her powers. "Most Servants of the Knight classes can likely ignore it, but those without the Resistance might be forced to astralize for a few seconds." Did she know what that was? "Ah, excuse me, allow me to demonstrate." And he vanished into the air. A few seconds passed, and then he reappeared in the same spot he had been. He'd never left. His spiritual presence was still there, he had just been ethereal for those few moments. What a strange way to use a crest. But the fact was it gave her some form o combat ability. He hoped. He seriously hoped that this girl actually knew how to use that sword or this would be an extremely short Grail War for them, and him. He was starting to think that he had gotten a really odd Master, and that her family was odd too. But wait, there was a problem. "... Is?" Rider remarked. "Your parents are still alive?" He frowned. That added a whole new layer of complications to this mess. It's one thing if he died. No one would remain to mourn, but his Master had a family. What a troublesome Master... Taking the gun, he resisted the urge to sigh. He had more obligations now. He'd have to get the hang of using this thing. If he'd been more of a terrible person he probably would've considered killing the parents. There was also the issue that they might end up becoming target in and of themselves. "Change your name. If I'm about to meet your parents, they can, and will, become a target of any who know where to look." And he didn't want to risk the possibility that she'd throw everything away to run after them when they'd probably already be killed. Biting back another sigh, he followed her up the stairs. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: i can still take wolfie

[googlefont=Quicksand] I DON'T KNOW WHY I DIDN'T COME SOMETHING HAS TO MAKE YOU RUN. I FEEL AS EMPTY AS A DRUM.

Yeah, no. | Well, at least she had a brief way to defend herself. Cassie sincerely hoped there was a way for them to remove whatever was binding him in such a way. Sure, there had to be a bounded field of some strength sealing his parameters, right? All of them were unlisted in a way that hinted at such. "Well, it will be a useful distraction at the very least should a Servant go for me. Here is to hoping we do not encounter a strong Servant right away," she mused with a shake of her head. Seeing him take on an astral form was quite interesting, because she could still sense his presence in front of her.
Her head tilted to the side at his question. Had he expected her to be without a family? Did those that participated in the Grail War have no family to leave behind to mourn them? Cassie shrugged her shoulders somewhat as she gripped the pommel of her sword. "My mother is, at least. My father passed a few years ago, but we still have his possessions. At the moment, she is traveling abroad while I participate in this war," she explained. Her mother had been quite distraught with her decision to potentially throw her life away in this endeavor. Cassie wanted to win this War with all of her heart to have the Holy Grail grant her wish. Little else mattered to her right now.
"I will change my name if it helps, but mother is a smart woman. She was the first person I told of my desire to participate in the Grail War, and she made necessary precautions for herself." Cassie had no wish for her mother to be killed simply by association. Would people truly go that far for the Holy Grail? It was not like she needed an answer to her question, because she knew how deep the greed of mankind could run. She paused before the master bedroom suite of her mother before leading Rider inside. The walk-in closet she pointed to would contain more than enough clothing for him to choose from. |

She had told her mother that she was taking part? Mistake. A loose end, and something that would have to be taken care of. The pragmatic solution would be to kill her. It was a rule; any witnesses who were not involved were to be silenced. Permanently. But that wasn't something a knight would do, now was it? "Don't tell her anything about me. Not even that I'm a Servant." He remarked, "Some Masters and Casters can work mind magic. She could be a loose end." They could potentially use her to gain his true identity if she knew it. "As far as she knows, you dragged a regular familiar. Get creative." He was going to meet her sure, but the less she knew, the better. Still, there was some comfort at the idea that she would leave if things were going to get bad. There was also the small comfort that Cassandra would at least change her name, and was willing to go along with all of this so readily. He had half expected her to refuse, to stay here and wait for both of them to get killed or something ridiculous. But as he was led inside, his more pragmatic thoughts stopped as he took some time to examine the room. It was fancy. Very fancy. Not the fanciest that he had known, certainly, but it was still nice, and he was free to take whatever clothes he wanted! Happy day! Reaching inside the wardrobe, he pulled out a white dress shirt, a pair of black dress pants, dress shoes, and a black vest. It looked like something a butler or something would wear. Which, if he was going to pass himself off as a servant, with a lower case S, then this would be fitting. The old man, may he rest in peace, even happened to be his size! What a stroke of luck! ... Of course, that was a time for an idea to come into his head. Servants were considered tools, right? Or maybe they weren't. But they were definitely considered "different." Laying down his new clothes on the bed, he took the shirt into his hand, and with a flash, his armor was gone. As were all his clothes. He began dressing, his straight faced expression never wavering. tags: Cassandra Amell notes: try and stop me
